Year 6 Reading performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year six girls and boys in Tonga had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment: 47% girls and 53%.
Figure CRF6.3 shows the average reading performance of year six students in Tonga by gender.
On average, year six girls (471.93, SD = 70.22) scored higher than year six boys (436.56, SD = 69.84) in PILNA 2021. This was similar to the 2015 and 2018 PILNA cycles, when, on average, year six girls scored higher than year six boys in reading performance.
