Year 4 Reading performance by locality
A roughly equal number of year four students who had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment were enrolled in urban and non-urban schools: 48% were from urban schools and 52% were from non-urban schools.
Figure CRF4.7 shows the average reading performance of year four students by school locality. Those in urban schools achieved higher results than those in non-urban schools. This is similar to the 2018 and 2015 PILNA cycles, but the score difference in 2021 was about half the score difference in 2018 (see Figure CRF4.8).
