Most year six students who participated in the PILNA 2021 numeracy assessment were enrolled in government schools: 82% in government schools and 18% in non-government schools.

Figure CNF6.5 shows the average performance of year six students by school authority. Students in government schools scored about the same as students in non-government schools in overall numeracy and all numeracy strands. Overall, this is consistent with the trend in previous PILNA cycles. In both 2015 and 2018, students enrolled in government schools scored about the same in all numeracy areas compared with those in non-government schools, see Figures CNF6.5.1-CNF6.5.5. Further statistical testing needs to be performed to understand if differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
