Year 6 Reading performance by gender
Slightly more year six girls than boys in Small Island States had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment: 507 girls and 497 boys.
Figure CRF6.3 shows the average reading performance of year six students in Small Island States by gender. On average, year six girls (565.01, SD = 83.04) scored higher than year six boys (518.10, SD = 98.05) in PILNA 2021. This was consistent with the scores in the 2015 and 2018 PILNA cycles, when, on average, year six girls scored higher than year six boys in reading performance.
