Grade 5 Writing performance by gender
A roughly equal number of grade five girls and boys in Papua New Guinea had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 writing assessment: 52% girls and 48% boys.
Figure CWF5.3 shows the average writing performance of grade five students in Papua New Guinea by gender in PILNA 2021. On average, the grade five girls (544.09, SD = 34.39) scored slightly higher in writing performance than did the grade five boys (538.86, SD = 35.18). Grade five girls also scored higher, on average, than grade five boys in writing performance in 2015 and 2018, but the performance gap between 2018 and 2021 has narrowed, see Figure CWF5.4.
