Grade 3 Reading performance by gender
A roughly equal number of grade three girls and boys in Papua New Guinea had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment: 52% girls and 48% boys.
Figure CRF3.3 shows the average reading performance of grade three students in Papua New Guinea by gender. On average, the scores of grade three girls (458.45, SD = 64.06) were similar to those of the grade three boys (452.50, SD = 65.66) in reading. This is consistent with the 2018 PILNA cycle, when the reading scores of grade three girls and boys were similar as in Figure CRF3.4.
