Year 6 writing performance by locality
A roughly equal number of year six students who had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 writing assessment were enrolled in urban schools and non-urban schools: 52% in urban schools and 48% in non-urban schools.
Figure CWF6.7 shows the average writing performance of year six students by school locality. In PILNA 2021, year six students in urban schools scored about the same as those in non-urban schools. This is different from the findings in PILNA 2018 and PILNA 2015. In both these cycles, students in urban schools performed slightly better than those in non-urban schools (Figure CWF6.8). Further statistical testing needs to be done to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
