Year 4 Reading performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year four girls and boys in Tuvalu had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment: 48% girls and 52% boys.
Figure CRF4.3 shows the average reading performance of year four students in Tuvalu by gender. On average, year four girls (433.16, SD = 70.68) scored higher than year four boys (375.01, SD = 81.01) in reading. This is similar to the 2015 and 2018 PILNA cycles, when year four girls also scored higher than year four boys in reading performance (Figure CRF4.4).
