Year 6 Numeracy performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year six girls and boys in Solomon Islands had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 numeracy assessment: 52% girls and 48% boys.
Figure CNF6.4 shows the average numeracy performance of year six students in Solomon Islands by gender. Year six girls scored about the same as year six boys in all numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score. This was consistent with the trend in the previous two PILNA cycles. In 2015 and 2018, year six girls, on average, scored about the same as year six boys in all numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score (see Figures CNF6.4.1-6.4.5). Further statistical testing needs to be done to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
