Year 4 Writing performance by school authority
Most year four students who had their performance assessed in the PILNA 2021 writing assessment were enrolled in government schools: 77% in government schools and 23% in non-government schools.
Figure CWF4.5 shows the average performance of these students by school authority. Students in government schools scored about the same in writing as those in non-government schools. This is inconsistent with was observed in previous PILNA cycles. In 2018 and 2015, students in non-government schools achieved substantially better results than those in government schools. Further statistical testing needs to be performed to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers (Figure CWF4.6).
