Grade 5 Numeracy performance by gender
A roughly equal number of grade five girls and boys in Marshall Islands had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 numeracy assessment: 49% girls and 51% boys.
Figure CNF5.4 shows the average numeracy performance of grade five students in Marshall Islands by gender. Grade five girls scored higher on average than grade five boys in all numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score. This was consistent with the scores in 2015 and 2018, as seen in Figure CNF5.4.1, when grade five girls, on average, scored higher than grade five boys in all numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score. Further statistical testing needs to be done to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
