Grade 7 Numeracy performance by gender
A roughly equal number of grade seven girls and boys in Federated States of Micronesia had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 numeracy assessment: 52% of grade seven girls and 47% of grade seven boys.
Grade seven girls scored similarly to grade seven boys in the overall numeracy score. This was consistent with the trend across the two previous PILNA cycles. In 2015 and 2018, as seen in Figure CNF7.4.1, grade seven girls tended to score similarly to grade seven boys in the overall numeracy score. In 2021, however, grade seven girls scored higher than boys in the ‘Operations’ and ‘Data & Chance’ strands. Further statistical testing needs to be done to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
