Student difficulties perceived by teacher
Teachers have close oversight of classrooms and can provide unique insights into the difficulties students are experiencing. Regarding perceptions of student difficulties, there is some overlap between the items of difficulty given to teachers to respond to and those given to students (see student difficulties).
However, teachers were given some extra items they are in a better position to observe and comment on. These include the extent to which students are displaying signs of distress, or learning difficulties, such as absence, poor health and shortfalls in learning attainment.
This section presents the extent of student difficulties that were identified by teachers. At the end of this section, a brief comparison is made between teacher and student responses to four similar items of difficulty.
