Year 4 Reading performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year four girls and boys in Cook Islands had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment, with the distribution being 46% girls and 54% boys.
Figure CRF4.3 shows the average reading performance of year four students in Cook Islands by gender. On average, year four girls (489.97, SD = 102.80) scored higher than year four boys (431.07, SD = 114.76) in reading. This is consistent with the trends shown in the 2015 and 2018 PILNA cycles, when year four girls scored higher than year four boys in reading performance as shown in Figure CRF4.4.
