Year 6 Reading performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year six girls and boys in Cook Islands had their performance analysed in PILNA 2021 reading assessment, with the distribution being 45% girls and 55% boys.
Figure CRF6.3 shows the average reading performance of year six students in Cook Islands by gender. On average, year six girls (581.79, SD = 76.46) scored higher than year six boys (537.11, SD = 95.08) in PILNA 2021. This is consistent with the trends in the 2015 and 2018 PILNA cycles, when, on average, year six girls scored higher than year six boys in reading performance, see Figure CRF6.4.
