Year 4 Reading performance by gender
A slightly unequal number of year four girls and boys in Niue had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 reading assessment: 43% girls and 57% boys.
Figure CRF4.3 shows the average reading performance of year four students in Niue by gender. On average, year four girls (516.77, SD = 57.10) scored higher than year four boys (493.31, SD = 82.30) in reading. This is consistent with the results from PILNA 2018, when year four girls (469.85, SD = 72.89) scored higher than year four boys (451.09, SD = 102.69) in reading performance; in PILNA 2015, however, year four boys (466.59, SD = 52.45) scored slightly higher than did girls (459.71, SD = 53.95) (Figure CRF4.4).
