Year 4 Numeracy performance by gender
A roughly equal number of year four girls and boys in Tokelau had their performance analysed in the PILNA 2021 numeracy assessment: 45% girls and 55% boys.
Figure CNF4.4 shows the average numeracy performance of year four students in Tokelau by gender. Year four girls scored higher than year four boys in most numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score. This was consistent with the score in 2015 and 2018, as seen in Figure CNF4.4.1, when year four girls, on average, scored higher than year four boys in most numeracy areas, including the overall numeracy score. The exception, in 2021, was in the ‘Measurement & Geometry’ strand, where the performance of girls and boys was about the same. Further statistical testing needs to be done to understand if these differences in scores are significant or the result of chance or outliers.
